Time


We seldom wear watches. There are no appointments, weekdays or weekends. We don’t have phones in our pockets. The sun replaced the alarm clock. We estimate how many hours of daylight remain by placing our hands from the horizon to the sun. Several times we’ve gone ashore, only to discover it’s Sunday and all shops are closed. We eat when we are hungry but not too busy to cook. So many things that are new and different happen in the course of a single day. The confluence of these factors has dilated time, making the last two months seem like much longer. The days feel like weeks and the weeks feel like days. Yes…
